Maryland: Another Week Ahead of Committee Hearings for Gun Control Legislation

Tomorrow, the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee will consider Senate Bill 958, cross-file bill of House Bill 910.  Please contact committee members and ask them to OPPOSE Senate Bill 958.

Senate Bill 958 / House Bill 910 prohibits individuals from manufacturing, transferring, or possessing a firearm built with a 3-D printer.  SB 958 also bans the manufacture, transfer and possession of so-called “undetectable firearms” currently banned by both Maryland and federal law.  This legislation will do nothing to enhance public safety and instead relies on fear to advance an anti-gun narrative.

Again, please contact members of the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee and ask them to OPPOSE Senate Bill 958.

On Wednesday, the House Judiciary Committee is scheduled to consider three gun control bills that target law-abiding gun owners instead of focusing on criminals.

House Bill 591 victimizes gun owners who fail to report the loss or theft of a firearm within 72 hours of discovering them missing.  Penalties include fines and imprisonment.

House Bill 1104 redefines “transfer” with vague language that courts and law enforcement will have trouble interpreting.  Law-abiding gun owners will be victimized through no fault of their own.

House Bill 1501 reduces the time that an individual has to report a lost or stolen firearm from 72 to 48 hours.  Like HB 591, significant fines and imprisonment are the result, further victimizing law-abiding gun owners through no fault of their own

Please contact members of the House Judiciary Committee and ask that they oppose these gun control measures.
