Hawaii: Ban on Commonly Owned Semi-Autos & Other Anti-Gun Bills Introduced

As previously reported last week, House Bill 25 was introduced, which would ban the possession of firearms or ammunition in hotel rooms.  The trend continued this week with additional anti-gun bills being filled, the most egregious of these being a ban on commonly owned semi-automatic firearms, discriminating against young adults under the age of 21 and prohibiting them from bringing firearms into the state, and lastly, further victimizing gun owners who have experienced a loss or theft.  Please contact committee members and urge them to OPPOSE these bills!  Click the "Take Action" button below to contact committee members.

Senate Bill 1334, introduced by Senator Laura Thielen (D-25), would expand the current ban on “assault pistols” to include commonly owned rifles and shotguns that can accept detachable magazines.  It would also ban standard-capacity magazines holding more than 10 rounds of ammunition for any firearm.  SB 1334 has not been assigned to a committee as of this publishing.

Senate Bill 600, introduced by Senators Clarence Nishihara (D-17) and Stanley Chang (D-9), would raise the minimum age to transport a firearm into the state to the age of 21.  SB 600 has been referred to the Senate Committee on Judiciary and the Senate Committee on Public Safety, Intergovernmental and Military Affairs.

House Bill 720, introduced by Representative Chris Lee (D-51), and Senate Bill 621, introduced by Senator Nishihara, would both set a one-size-fits all requirement for gun owners to report lost or stolen firearms within 24 hours, further victimizing gun owners who have suffered a loss or theft of their property.  SB 621 has been referred to the Senate Committee on Judiciary and the Senate Committee on Public Safety, Intergovernmental and Military affairs.  HB 720 has been referred to the House Committee on Public Safety, Veterans, and Military Affairs and the House Committee on Judiciary.

Again, please click the “Take Action” button above to contact committee members and urge them to OPPOSE these bills.
