Virginia: Loudoun County to Consider Amending Firearm Discharge Ordinance

Virginia: Loudoun County to Consider Amending Firearm Discharge Ordinance

On December 4th, the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors will consider amending the firearm discharge ordinance and it could contain vague language that would negatively affect recreational shooting and hunting opportunities.  Please contact the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors and urge them to ensure that any new language to the Discharge of Firearms in Chapter 684 is clearly defined.  Click the “Take Action” button below to contact the Board of Supervisors.

Under current law, “The discharge of firearms is prohibited within 100 yards of a building with a current occupancy permit unless the owner or authorized agent has given permission.”  The proposed Item #7 on the agenda for the December 4th Business Meeting would change it to the vaguely worded “regularly occupied structure, or a structure intended for occupancy,” with board staff being tasked with defining it further later.  Such terms need to be clearly defined prior to enacting any new ordinances in order to protect current shooting and hunting opportunities and provide gun owners with a predictable and understandable means of following the law.

Again, please click the “Take Action” button above to contact the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors and urge them to ensure that any new language to the Discharge of Firearms in Chapter 684 is clearly and correctly defined.
