Tennessee: Pro-Gun Bills Scheduled for Committee Hearings this Week

Tomorrow, the House Civil Justice Subcommittee is scheduled to consider House Bill 2208, House Bill 2129, and House Bill 1602.  Click the below “Take Action” button to contact committee members in support.


HB 2208, sponsored by Rep. Coach Byrd (R-71), would allow private certified firearms instructors to train teachers, who are allowed, to carry a concealed firearm on school property.  Those teachers would also be required to be adequately trained.

HB 2129, sponsored by Rep. Micah Van Huss (R-6), allows for off-duty law enforcement officers to serve as security guards for public schools.

HB 1602, sponsored by Rep. Judd Matheny (R-47), enacts the "Second Amendment Civil Rights Act of 2018." HB 1602 confers private right of action upon a person to challenge a government entity that refuses to make property available to third parties for Second Amendment activities when the property is made available for other activities.

On Wednesday, the House Education Instruction and Programs Subcommittee is scheduled to consider HB 2550 and Senate Bill 2609.

HB 2550 and SB 2609, sponsored by Rep. Dawn White (R-37) and Sen. Delores Gresham (R-26), respectively, requires the state Board of Education to develop standards for a firearm education course to be offered as an elective for high school students.

Please contact members of the House Civil Justice Subcommittee and urge them to SUPPORT HB 2208, HB 2129, HB 1601 and the members of the House Education Instruction and Programs Subcommittee to SUPPORT HB 2550 and SB 2609.
