California: San Carlos City Council Passes Emergency Moratorium to Halt Completion of Turner’s Outdoorsman

California: San Carlos City Council Passes Emergency Moratorium to Halt Completion of Turner’s Outdoorsman

On Monday, November 13, the San Carlos City Council passed an urgency ordinance to impose a moratorium to block new gun stores from opening in the City.  With the passage of this moratorium, a new Turner’s Outdoorsman store, that was slated to open soon, will be prohibited from proceeding until the City decides whether to impose new zoning and use permit requirements on sporting goods stores.  This last-minute attack by the City comes after months of Turner’s Outdoorsman responsibly working with the City of San Carlos and the City Police Chief, and after Turner’s Outdoorsman has invested significant time, money, and resources to bring the store to opening day readiness.

The attempt to block the opening of the new Turner’s Outdoorsman store and other firearm retailers has been driven by the gun-ban lobby.  It has become a priority to block new gun stores from opening in California through excessive red tape and local ordinances.

This 45-day moratorium is expected to come back up for another hearing and vote by the City Council on November 27, 2017.  We encourage gun owners and Second Amendment supporters to call AND email the City Council and voice their SUPPORT allowing the opening of Turner’s Outdoorsman Store.  We will keep you updated on this issue.  In the meantime, comments may be submitted to:
