Florida Legislative Session Update

Friday, February 3, 2012

The 2012 Florida legislative session is well underway and the NRA is working on numerous firearm-related bills.  See below for the list of those pro-Second Amendment and anti-Second Amendment bills.

No grassroots action is necessary at this time.  We will send update alerts and action items as necessary as these bills progress through the state legislature.  Be sure to continue to check www.NRAILA.org and your e-mail for future updates.

Currently supported Pro-Second Amendment bills:

SB-802 and companion bill HB-313 would limit the liability of landowners who contract with the state to allow private land to be used by members of the public for hunting, fishing and other recreational purposes.

SB-998 and companion bill HB-463 would provide that otherwise qualified members and veterans of U.S. Armed Forces be issued a concealed weapon or firearm license regardless of age or U.S. residency in certain circumstances.

SB-154 and companion bill HB-513 would authorize a licensed security officer or licensed security agency manager to detain a person on the premises of a critical infrastructure facility in certain circumstances.

Currently opposed Anti-Second Amendment bills:

SB-132 and companion bill HB-77 would make felons out of hunters who unintentionally cross onto private property or cross railroad tracks while hunting.

SB-194 and companion bill HB-127 would undermine the "Castle Doctrine" law by making it a crime for a person to do harm to a utility worker who comes on their property, when the person has been threatened by the utility worker.

SB-248 and companion bill HB-4015 would repeal HB-155, which was signed into law in 2011, to stop doctors from violating the privacy rights of gun owners.

SB-1340 and companion bill HB-1087 would prohibit licensed concealed weapons license holders from exercising their rights.

SB-1556 and companion bill HB-1269 would create an exception to the Florida firearms preemption law.

HB-899 would repeal HB 45, which was signed into law in 2011, to provide penalties for local governments that willfully and knowingly violate the state law.

HB-1147 would undermine the rights of Concealed Weapons License holders from exercising certain rights in Broward Country and would allow Broward County to opt of the state law.

HB-1221 is essentially the same as HB-1147 listed above.
