HANDGUN LICENSING BILLS STILL A THREAT IN CALIFORNIA

Today, theAssembly Appropriations Committee failed to passAssembly Bill 35 (Shelley), a measure that would require that all new handgun purchasers obtain a license before taking possession of the firearm. Key Democrats on the committee voted "NO" on the bill, which was being debated on its fiscal impact.

However, despite the lack of support in the committee, Assemblyman Shelley, furious at being denied his licensing bill, has requested a rule waiver that would allow the measure to be brought back onMonday, June 4 for another vote. It is imperative that you contact the members of the Assembly Appropriations Committee and ask them to continue to vote "NO" should the bill be revived next week. In addition, please call Democrat Assemblymembers Wright, Wiggins, Thomson, Papan, and Correa, and thank them for their "NO" vote today.
