Gary, Ind., service-station attendant Claude Thomas and his
wife were alone in the station in the early morning hours when a man
entered carrying an empty gasoline can and asked for gas for his
stalled car. As Thomas started to fill the order, a second man,
stocking-hooded and armed with a shotgun, entered and ordered Thomas
to hand over his cash. This he did. As the armed thug was herding
Thomas and his wife toward the washroom, he turned away long enough
for Thomas to whip out his own gun and commence firing. The robber
fell dead as his accomplice fled.
